First look at new plan for Kingsland

Printer Print Article

EDUCATION chiefs hope a series of architects’ plans will draw the people of Peebles into next week’s Kingsland drop-in sessions.

The designs will provide blueprints for the layout of the planned school at Neidpath Grazings, and will be amended during the remainder of the consultation period.

School chiefs are encouraging everyone to have their say.

Leona Bendall, spokeswoman for the education department at Scottish Borders Council, told us: “Everyone is welcome to come along to Kingsland Primary School and see the plans for themselves.

“They will have the opportunity to see for themselves what a school might look like on Neidpath Grazings.”

The consultation on relocating Kingsland Primary School to Neidpath Grazings started on February 6.

And heated debate has already seen the town divided over the move.

Jane Turnbull is one of a group of mums who have actively campaigned for the school to stay where it is. They claim that the council should spend its money on refurbishing and extending the current Rosetta Road building.

Jane told the Peeblesshire News: “Children would remain in a safer environment if Kingsland was refurbished to become a 21st Century school, rather than having to walk twice daily to and from Neidpath Grazings.”

The drop-in sessions start on Tuesday afternoon at the school – and will be open daily between 3.15pm and 5.30pm.

And prior to the statutory consultation meeting being held next Thursday evening, the architects and members of the project team will be on hand between 4.30pm and 6.30pm to discuss designs for the proposed new building.

A final decision on the future of Kingsland Primary School will be made at a council meeting on April 27.
