WALKERBURN will be double the fun this summer with two festival lasses leading the way.

Twins, Jade and Shiree Robertson were shocked and delighted when their names were announced at the festival coffee morning earlier this month.

12-year-old Shiree told the Peeblesshire News: “We weren’t expecting it at all. I was so surprised I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.”

The pair admit they are a bit nervous about making their festival speech and are glad to have some sisterly support.

But class teacher Julia Stoddart has every confidence in the P7 pupils and said: “I am very proud. They have worked hard all through Primary School and this is well deserved.

“They always do their best.”

The sporty siblings who will be going to Peebles high School next September are looking forward to finishing at Walkerburn Primary on a high note and can’t wait to let their hair down at the festival disco.

Classmate Sarah Laing will also be in the limelight during festival celebrations this year, as winner of the Molly McIntosh Walkerburn essay prize.

The talented writer was selected as top essayist by Peebles High School History teacher, Peter Waller.

As well as researching the history of the area Sarah also scooped points for her thoughts on the future, including suggestion for the return of the railway and Walkerburn becoming an eco-village.

The 12-year-old told the Peeblesshire News: “I was really surprised to win.

“I found it quite difficult to write but really enjoyed it.

The Walkerburn summer Festival will run from Sunday June 25.
