'Charming' Royal couple meet scan patient Linda
By David Knox
PEEBLESSHIRE patient Linda McFadyen had a couple of special visitors on Wednesday – Charles and Camilla.
The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay were on royal duty at Borders General Hospital to open a bone scanner unit.
And they watched on as the Cardrona’s Linda was given the once over by the life-saving machine.
Linda told the Peeblesshire News: “It came as a bit of a shock when I was told that my scan would coincide with the royal visit.
“I felt very privileged to have been selected to have my scan done in their attendance.
“They were a really charming couple.”
The Duchess of Rothesay is president of the National Osteoporosis Society.
And she unveiled a plaque to officially open the unit before watching the DEXA scanner in action.
Dr Andrew Pearson from the BGH told us: “We thought it would be appropriate for the Duke and Duchess to witness the scanner at work.
“We checked to see which patients were being referred to the scanner around a month ago. We had to keep the visit secret until two weeks ago, and that is when we asked Mrs McFadyen. She kindly agreed.”
Charles and Camilla met with staff and patients during their one-hour stop at the Melrose hospital.
And even made time for a brief Royal walkabout in the grounds.
