WHO said you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?

Dog owners are being trained to stop their pet pooches barking up the wrong tree at a walk led by the Forestry Commission at Cardrona Forest this weekend.

They are being encouraged to make more use of local woods and be more responsible by cleaning up after them.

The Forestry Commission’s community and recreation ranger, Richard Mostyn said: “Dog walkers are some of our most frequent visitors and we want to make them feel welcomed into our forests.

“We are hoping that by inviting dog owners to this day they can benefit from some free advice and that we can also benefit by hearing what their needs are.

“We do have an issue with dog fouling in certain areas and one of the main messages is to encourage dog walkers to clean up after their pets because other people, including children, also use these woods.”

Expert dog handler Trudy Davidson will be on hand to give dog owners handy hints and tips on walking their dog in Cardrona Forest on Saturday (April 26), between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

A varied range of walks will be available and there will be a competition to win a doggy hamper.

The event is free and people should meet in the Kirkburn Car Park at 10 a.m.
