Mowbray looking for a new club for Notman

INNERLEITHEN internationalist Steven Notman could be on his way out of Easter Road – but only on loan.

The Hibs midfield ace has firmly established himself in the reserve team.

But an influx of new signings over the summer has relegated the industrious teenager down the pecking order.

And following this week’s game against Vale of Leithen, manager Tony Mowbray admitted he is on the lookout for an English club to farm out Notman.

Mowbray told the Peeblesshire News: “Steven is a talented football player, but there is more than half-a-dozen players in front of him just now playing in that central midfield role. It’s difficult for him to make that jump into the first team.

“I’m hoping to put him out on loan to an English club later this season. Regular first team football is what he needs, and it will bring him on. I’m still looking for a good club for him to go to.”

Outstanding performances last season led to the 18-year-old being handed a new two-year contract during the summer.

But his previous two years at Easter Road has only resulted in a couple of places on the first-team bench.

The only road fellow Hibs player and boyhood friend Ross Campbell will be taking is the one to recovery.

The 17-year-old, also from Innerleithen, has been plagued with recurring strains and pulls since arriving in Leith.

Despite his problems, the speedy striker has caught the eye of coaches – and also the team boss.

Mowbray added: “I have been impressed by both Steven and Ross. They both work hard.

“Ross is developing all the time, and has an extremely bright future in the game.”

And to round off his recovery from a recent thigh strain, the teenager struck his first goal of the season during Hibs’ eight-goal rout at Victoria Park.
