Eur getting nothing for Pole star

PEEBLES ROVERS have discovered 60,000 reasons not to play their new Polish striker this week.

Martine Danielski is still under contract with Polish First Division side GKS Belchatow.

And UEFA officials won’t give him clearance to play for the East of Scotland club before it expires, unless they cough up a transfer fee — 60,000 Euros.

But if they hold off for another few days, they get him for nothing.

Rovers boss Mark Lamb explained: “I don’t think Martine realised he was still under contract. We were just going through the procedures of getting clearance when it emerged he was still signed to Belchatow.

“Thankfully the contract ends on October 1, so we should have him playing next week.

“He’s been out of the game for a while, and he will be using Peebles as a springboard to get back into full-time football. He’s a very talented lad.”

Danielski was a regular for GKS Belchatow, who regularly turn out in front of 7000 fans, over four seasons.

And the 24-year-old established himself as one of their leading strikers. But it all turned sour with the arrival of a new Russian coach two years ago.

Mark added: “Martine got injured and was out for a few months. He was given a date to return, but didn’t go back to training until a fortnight later. The Russian coach told him he wasn’t needed any more, and he just gave up football.

“When I heard about the lad he was working in a chip shop in Edinburgh.”

Martine and his younger brother Pietr, who plays in midfield, have completed Rovers pre-season training.

Pietr will join the rest of the Peebles squad tomorrow as they travel to Easthouses for the Image Printers Cup clash.

Rovers will be without their hotshot Polish striker and also Craig Ferrier, who has flu.

Vale of Leithen are also in Image Printer Cup action when they entertain Eyemouth at Victoria Park.

Boss Jack Diamond believes his players are improving every week. He said: “Before we played Selkirk I would have been happy with a draw, but we were the better team and I was disappointed only to come away with one point.

“The cup gives us a break from the league. We are not far away from being the team we can be, and every game takes us closer to that.”
