Video evidence clears Sititi

“THANK God I am free to continue playing immediately” — Border Reivers No. 8 Semo Sititi was speaking after being cleared following his red card in his side’s Celtic League win over Connacht last Saturday.

Sititi was sent off by Welsh referee Nigel Owens after 10 minutes, but the SRU Disciplinary Panel this week cleared the player of any wrong doing.

In a statement, the SRU said: “After evidence led by the player, his witness and the viewing of the video evidence, the Panel determined that Sititi had not punched Connacht No 9 Tom Tierney contrary to the Laws of the Game.

“The video evidence provided a complete view of the alleged act of foul play, which enabled the Panel to determine that the reasons for the referee's decision in issuing the red card were wrong.

“The player (Sititi) is accordingly free to resume playing.”

Head coach Steve Bates welcomed the decision, saying: `The referee did not have the advantage of video evidence.

“We felt it was important to place the video evidence before the panel and we are pleased by the panel's decision.`
