PEEBLES ski-ing sensation Louise Bain recently hit gold at a top tournament.

The 12-year-old took first place at the Burns Night Slalom at Hillend, Midlothian on January 25.

Louise had just returned home from snow training in Austria at the Hintertux Glacier and Ziller valley.

The Hillend event was the first of the 2007 BARTS seeded dry slope races.

The two-run slalom over different courses saw Louise’s combined times as 66.33 – a storming first run time of 33.29 and second run time of 33.94 finishing 4th overall out of all age categories.

After a quick change again from mat to snow, Louise headed up to the Lecht Ski Center, near Aberdeen, for the North-East Children’s Championship on the following Saturday.

This again was a two-run slalom, seeded separately, over different set courses.

Louise skied her best time in her second run placing her first in the CH1 category – getting ‘just too close’ to a gate in her first run, giving her a bronze medal for her combined times.

Unfortunately, Sunday’s GS/Slalom race was cancelled due to strong winds.

More snow races await Louise and her fellow-trainees up north in the coming weeks – snow conditions permitting.

Louise continues to train with Lothian Ski Racing Association at Hillend and at Xscape, Glasgow on a Sunday morning.
