Peebles head south for pre-season bonding

PEEBLES RFC hopes that a bonding weekend in Northumberland will help launch a promotion-winning season for the club.

With the league kick-off just three weeks ago, Peebles aim to get off to a flying start rather than play catch-up rugby from the first whistle.

Just seven days before the opening match, Peebles coaches and players will head over the border to play Percy Park.

“This will be team building exercise,” said Rugby Director Bob Hogarth. “We have a few new faces and this will help to build team spirit and enable the players to get to know each other.”

Before then, Peebles will travel to play Linlithgow (August 15) and take on Ross High/Corstorphine on August 18 in pre-season friendlies.

And they will have sevens at Kelso on Saturday and Selkirk a week on Sunday.

“Training has been going well so far with up to 25 players taking part, and this is good as we are still in the holiday season,” Hogarth added.

Peebles have been boosted by the return of Drew Moore, from Biggar, as well as Neil Cruikshank, who has spent the summer in New Zealand.

Two other new players revealed today for the first time are Kenny Gibson, the former Jordanhill back, and Mark Thomson, who has moved to Peebles and formerly played for Edinburgh Accies.
