West Linton athlete Chris O'Hare races to gold at the Scottish Athletics Championships in Glawgow.

PACEY Peebles pupil Chris O’Hare had a golden day in the 1500 metres at the Scottish Schools Championships last Thursday.
And followed it a couple of days later to smash his best ever time and claim the Scottish Under 20s indoor title as well.
The 17-year-old from West Linton finished strongly at Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall to claim the schools title in a time of 3.58.86 with Glasgow School of
Sport’s Sean Fontana 20 metres behind in second.
And there was even better to come from the cross-country champion on Sunday.
After easing through the heats, Chris flew round the 200-metre track to demolish a strong field in the Under 20s age group.
And crossed the line in a personal best time of 3.55.87 well ahead of Ireland’s Gavin Downey.
Dad Terry was amongst the appreciative crowd. He told us: “We are all delighted for Chris. He trains hard and deserves the success he is getting.”
The younger O’Hares were also in action at the Kelvin Hall.
Chris’s younger sister, Olivia, produced a personal best time of 2.34.35 in the Under 15s 800 metres to secure third place in the B final.
The 13-year-old did exceptionally well to beat older girls to claim her place in the final.
And 10-year-old Dominic also ran a personal best time of 2.43.74 in the Under 13s 800 metres, but narrowly missed out on a place in the final.
Faye Nicholson failed to jump at the Scottish Championships on Sunday because of injury.
But on Thursday she shrugged off the pain to win silver in the Schools Championships.
The 14-year-old Peebles High pupil reached 5.08 metres, just short of her personal best, to finish behind Perth’s Emma Dawson.
Mum and coach Linda was delighted: “Considering all of the problems Faye has had with injury over the past few weeks this was an excellent result.
“We were all disappointed that she had to withdraw from the Scottish but it will be a case of putting her sore foot up for a wee while before the summer season begins.”
The weekend’s Scottish Championships did produce another Borders winner when 12-year-old Demi Yorke from Galashiels won the Under-13s 60 metres.
The Gala Harrier also collected silver in the Under-13s’ long jump.
