Peebles blow for skipper
By David Knox
PEEBLES captain Paul Greenhill could miss the rest of the season.
The 26-year-old utility defender has been floored by a mystery virus, and is unlikely to return to the pitch for a couple of months.
The financial adviser has been battling with sickness and aching joints for several weeks – and he is now to undergo specialist tests next week.
Peebles currently sit second in the table with games in hand over leaders Heriot Watt University.
But a recent dip in form has reduced the chances of promotion.
And manager Mark Lamb feels the loss of Greenhill is a major blow.
He told the Peeblesshire News: “We’re all a bit concerned about Paul and hope he recovers quickly.
“He is a big player for us who always gives his all – the type of player you need when you are chasing promotion.
“He will definitely miss the next few games and we’re not certain if he will be back fully fit before the end of the season.”
Peebles welcome in-form Tynecastle to Whitestone Park – and Lamb knows he is in for a tough afternoon.
He added: “They have won their last two games and appear to be picking up.
“We have 10 games to go and every one of them will be treated like a cup final.”
Chris Grahame, who has been suffering from flu, is Lamb’s only other doubt ahead of tomorrow’s game.
Vale of Leithen have resigned themselves to another season in the First Division.
But Lyndsay Rathie wants his players to get in the winning habit with two of their biggest games of the season fast approaching.
He explained: “Over the next couple of weeks we will play Edinburgh City in the South Regional Cup and also our first local derby against Peebles in the league.
“It has been a frustrating season with games called off but I’d like us to start picking up league points and go into the cup game with confidence.”
Rathie will be without the suspended Greig Shortreeed and injured Steven Notman for tomorrow’s trip to Hawick Royal Albert.
But Scott Johnstone and Lewis Montgomery have both returned to the squad.
Rathie added: “The Hawick game is a good chance to get some points on the board.”
Peebles’ home game with Tynecastle and Vale’s match down at Albert Park both kick off at 2.30pm.
