PEEBLES FC has unveiled its new management team for next season.

Gary French will take charge of the Whitestone Park side from next month with fellow former player Allan McDonald becoming his assistant.

Peebles are currently poised for promotion in the East First Division.

But earlier wrangles over financial backing saw the current management team of Mark Lamb and Rab Paget announce their season-end resignation at the start of the year.

Lamb and Paget, along with their coaching staff of Stuart Robertson and Dave McGinley have been linked with several clubs including Whitehill Welfare, Selkirk, Craigroyston and Hawick Royal Albert.

And it looks almost certain that the entire squad of players they have assembled over the past two seasons will be departing with them.

New boss French told the Peeblesshire News: “It will be a clean start for the club – new players, new managers and a new committee to support us.

“I appreciate what Mark has done for the club but we have to take it on now and start again.

“Our aim is to generate as many young players from the town as possible.

“There are good boys from Peebles already playing at Vale of Leithen, Leithen Rovers and Hutchison Vale and we would be hoping some of them will come back and join us.

“No approaches have been made to any player yet – we will wait until the season is over.”

The management duo of French and McDonald, who are both former Peebles Rovers players, will be supported on the coaching side by Lawrence Forest.

And the Border Amateur second-string team will be managed by Paul Graham and John Meikle from the start of next season.

A statement released this week by Peebles Football Club said:

“The main aim of the new look set up is to build a team and a set up which will give the Peebles players, both senior and junior, a chance to apply their trade at a higher footballing standard.”

A new committee, comprising of Findlay Ferguson, Maurice Gordon, Gordon Lindsay, Frank Robinson and Scott Carruthers, has been formed to support the two senior teams.

And their first fundraising bash – a Parlour Derby - will be held in the Ex-Servicemen’s Club on May 31.
