THEY are arguably the most experienced football team in the world.

And last week their second player reached his 60th birthday.

The Monday-Wednesday 5-a-side Club has been having indoor kick-a-bouts for over two decades at Peebles High School.

And as the mature midfielders keep on maturing the dated defenders are about to start claiming their pensions.

Senior statesman of the club Iain McLeod turned 60 last year with a birthday celebration at the Cardrona Hotel.

And last week team-mate and local architect Drew Davidson also reached the milestone.

A spokesman for the Monday-Wednesday 5-a-side Club told the Peeblesshire News: “Both Iain and Drew continue to play every week.

“Members of the club organised a celebration at Cardrona Hotel to mark the occasion with 30 team mates - aged from 22 years old upwards - celebrating Drew’s 60th.

“A sumptuous meal in a luxurious setting was thoroughly enjoyed and the company was also adequately refreshed by the end of the evening.

“We must thank the committee and especially Ivor Clark for organising this stylish event.”
