TWO out of three ain’t bad for Meatloaf but it’s essential for Peebles if they want to play with the Premier boys.

After suffering two recent defeats, to Vale of Leithen and Berwick Rangers Reserves, Mark Lamb’s side now require six points from their remaining three games. And the first of them is tomorrow against in-form Gala Fairydean.

With three Border derbies to finish the season, also against Kelso United and Hawick Royal Albert, Lamb knows two wins won’t be easy. He told the Peeblesshire News: “They don’t come much harder than Gala Fairydean at the moment. They are a good footballing side that are winning their games.

“We know what we have to do and it will be a case of rolling up the sleeves and getting on with it.”

The only doubt ahead of the Gala game or Tuesday night’s clash with Kelso is defender Kevin Robertson.

Lamb added: “It’s in our own hands with three games to go and we have a full squad apart from Kevin. I’d have taken that at the start of the season.”

Vale of Leithen could do their Peeblesshire rivals a favour tomorrow when they travel to play second-placed Civil Service Strollers.

The Innerleithen team have hit a rich vein of form over the past couple of months.

And reached the semi finals of the King Cup on Tuesday evening with a win away at First Division champions Heriot Watt University.

Although co-boss Lindsay Rathie will have one eye on the forthcoming cup tie, against either Ormiston or Lothian Thistle, he still hopes to win tomorrow. Rathie said: “We have three league games left and will do everything we can to win them and climb up the table.

“Civil Service seem to be a bit hot and cold so you never know what you are going to get when you play them.

“Obviously the King Cup is our priority and it would be great if we could reach a final to finish off the season.”

Rathie will be without injured duo Campbell Forsyth and Ross McManus for tomorrow’s game at Muirhouse.

And both Aaron Somerville and Craig Robertson will undergo late fitness tests ahead of the game.

Leithen Rovers travel Galashiels tomorrow looking to lift the Beveridge Cup when they face Hawick Legion.

Despite a fraught season the Innerleithen team have reached two cup finals.

The final at Netherdale kicks off at 2pm.

Peebles’ home game with Gala Fairydean kicks off at 12 noon, whilst Vale’s encounter with the Strollers starts at 2.30pm.

The Peebles against Kelso match at Whitestone Park on Tuesday kicks off at 7.30pm.

And on Sunday 20 teams will line up in the annual Tweeddale Rovers Sevens at Kerfield. First tie is at 11.45am.
