Cardrona tees up for Euro challenge

The European Challenge Tour makes a welcome return to Peeblesshire this weekend as Macdonald Cardrona Hotel, Golf and Country Club hosts the Scottish Challenge golf tournament.

Beginning yesterday the tournament will run until its climax on Sunday. Returning for its second successive year the Scottish Challenge gives golf fans the chance to see some of the game’s rising stars make a name for themselves before they hit the big time.

One of the strongest fields of the season will assemble at the course which is renowned by professionals and amateurs alike.

Designed by the renowned golf course architect, Dave Thomas, and set against the backdrop of the Borders’ most beautiful scenery, the course will pose a fitting test for those competing in one of the 2008 Challenge Tour’s richest and most important events.

Top Scots Richie Ramsay, Jamie McLeary, Lloyd Saltman and Eric Ramsay are gearing up to return and improve on last year’s performance.

Those who go to spectate over the weekend will be happy to hear that entry to tyhe course and parking are both free.

Young golfers will also be able to pick up some tips as they take to the nets and recieve coaching thanks to clubgolf, the national programme to introduce young people to the great sport that Scotland gave the world.

James Lerche, managing director of the Macdonald Golf Hotel Golf & Country Club said: “We are delighted to be hosting the Scottish Challenge 2008 at the Macdonald Cardrona for the second year running.

"It is a highly prestigious event and we are sure the players will enjoy playing on our fantastic course, which has gained a reputation as one of the leading resort courses in Scotland.

"We have made improvements to the course to make it even more challenging and enjoyable for players and we anticipate lots of positive feedback following the event.”
