Rovers warm up for new season

Leithen Rovers played their first friendly match of the new season, and after a rather slow start, ran out comfortable 8-1 winners against third division side Earlston.

Finding themselves a goal down inside the first minute they soon rallied to go into the interval with a 4-1 lead, thanks to a brace from Alan McMath and followed by a goal each for new signings Robin Shek and Blair Meikle.

The second period was mainly dominated by The Rovers, where they played some neat passing football which resulted in McMath netting his hat-trick and further strikes from Fleming, Hastie, and saving the best for last, a sublime finish from Colin Smith to round off proceedings.

Leithen Rovers continued their build up to the new season with a game against Lothian side East Linton. Unfortunately, with the scoreline at 3-0 to the hosts, the match had to be called to an abrupt halt after only 55 minutes when their visitors sustained a number of unfortunate injuries, while using all their substitutes, felt that it they could no longer continue proceedings.

Up until that point Leithen had enjoyed the bulk of the play, having gone ahead inside the first 5 minutes when Andy Laurie pounced from close range after good initial play from Fleming and Brunton. The home side failed to increase their lead in the first half as their approach play turned rather scrappy and any clear chances were few and far between. Just like at the start of the first, Rovers came out in the second with more purpose and soon doubled their lead thanks to the quick thinking of Alan McMath who capitalised on a mistake by the Linton keeper. Colin Smith then added a third from long range before the game came to it's premature conclusion.

Rovers play host to Danderhall on tomorrow in their third warm up match, with a 2pm ko. Players are reminded to report for 1pm.
