It's a Gala day for Tweeddale strikers

Gala Utd 2 v 4 Tweeddale Rovers

Tweeddale travelled down to Gala last Saturday for the semi final of the Collie Cup and the game was marred by controversy from the start.

As Rovers had to make two late changes to the starting line up, with McNaught and Mcleod dropping out due to injury for Murphy and Jordan Thompson respectively.

Barry Thomson was also restored to the starting line-up in for Richard Nash.

Gala started strong and took the game to Tweeddale from the start and were 1-0 ahead within one minute, when the dale struggled to clear a long ball into the box and they were punished with a clinical finish past the helpless young in goals.

Not the start Tweeddale had hoped for but as mentioned at half time, better conceeding in the first minute as opposed to the last.

As the first half wore on, Tweeddale started to get a grip on the game, and equalised, when a corner wasnt dealt with by Gala and Blair Moffat was on hand to equalise, stumbling the ball over the line from a yard out.

With that Tweeddale were growing in stature, and the halftime whistle came at a bad time with tweeddale looking the more likely to add to the score.

It didnt take Tweeddale long to to take the lead in the second half, when a clearance from Murphy, somehow found its way to Reece Evans at the back post, who lobbed the ball over the keeper into the back of the net.

It was one of Evans most unorothodox goals, but one he richly deserved as he tormented the Gala back four all afternoon, being aided with the confidence of knowing solid finlay Moffat was behind him.

Gala got back into the game, against the run of play, when their striker who looked to be offside raced through one on one with Young, the keeper who is growing in stature after his impressive display and clean sheet in his prior game closed the angle, but the strikers finish was too good, as he lobbed the tall keeper.

The goal was inevitable, as Murphy would of struggled to catch the player if he was inline with him, never mind when he has a 3 yrd head start.

Another set back for Tweeddale, so they brought on super sub Richard 'collie cup' Nash, for Mitchell, who was starting to struggle, although at 40 he did well to last so long.

Nash was soon to live up the the billing of super sub, when good play down the right, created the opening for Nash, and he gratefully accepted as he made it 2-3.

With that Moffat and Stewart brought of Murphy and Thomson for McFadden and Brands. With time running out, Tweeddale soon wrapped up the game, when a gala defender prodded the ball into the back of the net.

A good game for Tweeddale, who in spells played some nice football, and over all deserved the win. Man of the match goes to Evans and Finlay Moffat, who are forming a formidable partnership down the right hand side.

Team - Young, F. Moffat, Murphy, J. Thomson, B. Moffat, Evans, Warren, Inglis, Rogers, Mitchell, Thomson,

Subs - Mcfadden, Brands, Nash.
