Rovers aim for first league away win
By David O'Leary
Leithen Rovers sit fifth at present in League A, 11 points off the top with three games in hand.
Therefore this weekend manager Neil Gilchrist is glad to get back into league action after going down 3-2 away last Saturday to Giffnock North.
They face a long trip away to West Barns Star this Saturday at 2pm.
Neil said: “Even though we lost last weekend I was pleased with the effort and performance put in by the lads.
“This weekend is a bit of a trek and a welcome chance to get some points back on the board in the league. We’ll be looking for our first away win of the season and hope for a good game.
“Next weekend we’re away in the cup again to Gala Hostpur so this weekend is essential to not let too much of a gap emerge in the league.”
In League B, bottom of the table Peebles Ams face second from top Hawick United at home at 2pm.
They’ll be desperately looking to pick up some points to go with their single point so far after five games.
Last weekend they shipped five goals away to Gordon and manager John Meikle will want a better performance this Saturday.
Meanwhile in League C, undefeated Tweeddale Rovers will hoping to continue their blistering start to the season against Chirnside away, after disposing of Gala United 4-2 last weekend to reach the final of the Collie Cup.
Manager Jim Moffatt said: “I wasn’t too impressed with the opening twenty minutes as nerves seemed to get the better of our younger players which resulted in us losing a quick goal.
“As the game wore on though we took control and played some wonderful football.
“It’s exciting for the lads to reach a final though we’ll have to be at our best again this weekend to stay joint top of the league with Eyemouth.
“The club would also like to thank everyone who attended our fundraiser in the Rugby club on Saturday night. Players are also asked to remember donations for the coffee morning on Saturday November 15.”
