Peebles welcome break
By Atholl Innes
BORDERS senior rugby virtually takes a back seat this weekend.
Saturday has been declared a free-zone daybecause of Scotland’s international against South Africa.
But Selkirk travel to play Stirling County in a postponed match on Sunday although local clubs take time to reflect at the halfway stage of the season.
There is no respite for the 2nd XVs and juniors with Peebles due to play Biggar 2nd XV tonight at The Gytes and the 3rds and Colts in action tomorrow.
Peebles’ Rugby Director Bob Hogarth has welcomed the break and the club kick off the second half at home to Stewart’s Melville a week on Saturday.
Biggar, took, are idle, and will feel a bit more comfortable after their win last Saturday over Stewart’s Melville.
Said spokesman Al Stewart: “This was a hugely important four points for the squad and a win which, it can only be hoped, will give the side the confidence they need to build and kick-start the second half of the season.
“This was a real team performance and it would be impossible not to give every player involved 10 from 10 for their efforts. All had their own moments, which contributed to the win and congratulations must go to all 19 involved and of to coach Posa.
“His post match chat was, typically, about maintaining a reign on the excitement and building slowly on the result. The win was well overdue, but the overall play was perhaps the most important factor and this made for an enthralling game.”
But things don’t get much easier for Biggar as their next outing is on Friday, November 21, at Gala and will be played under the Netherdale floodlights. kick-off is 7.30 p.m.
