Peebles have points to prove against Selkirk
By David Knox
POINTS and Peebles aren’t too familiar this season. But tomorrow’s trip to Selkirk throws up their best opportunity yet of breaking this season’s duck.
The Souters lost a midweek friendly to First Division basement boys Hawick.
And several of their leading players are sidelined through injury.
Peebles boss Gary French knows his team have a genuine chance. He said: “We are all looking forward to this game.
“We are improving and we had a really good training session this week.
“Selkirk are under all the pressure – they are expected to win.”
Peebles could have Frankie Harrison signed ahead of the trip to Yarrow Park as negotiations continued with his current club Vale of Leithen this week.
And 17-year-old sweeper Ross Glass will return to French’s squad.
Vale have the comfort of a full squad for their Scottish Cup warm-up against Civil Service Strollers.
Lindsay Rathie and Robbie Clark steered the Innerleithen side off the bottom of the First Division last week.
And they are desperate to keep climbing the league with another three points tomorrow.
Vale secretary Alex Currie said: “We want the points to get into the promotion race.
“Next week’s Scottish Cup match is at the back of our minds but it won’t be a distraction for the Strollers game.”
Michael Osbourne returns to the squad following suspension.
And Currie is keeping his fingers crossed that nobody picks up red cards ahead of the trip to Inverurie Loco Works next Saturday for the third round of the Scottish Cup.
Currie, who was on a spying trip to Inverurie with coach Jackie Diamond last weekend, added: “Inverurie will be the biggest game of the season and we want to have a full squad for the match.”
Vale’s match at Muirhouse and the Peebles game at Selkirk both kick off at 2 p.m.
