Five tips for mouse control

There are few things as horrible as mice in your home. So here are five top tips to help you reduce the chances of these critters entering your premises. These ideas are proven mouse control tactics that will make all the difference with very little effort.

The first tip is the most obvious - take steps to eliminate points of entry for mice so they can't easily get into your home. They can climb in through holes in your foundations so make sure all cracks and gaps are sealed tightly. You can use home improvement tools that are readily available from most DIY stores to do this, or pay extra and get a professional to check and seal your home for you.

Doors, windows and frames are all entry points for mice too. If you live in an area that's prone to mice infestations, then it is a good idea to get these covered in a mouse-proof mesh and to repair any damage caused by weather or time.

The third step is to strategically place mouse traps around your home and inside the areas that are most likely to attract the critters. These are dark places that are not easily accessed by humans and remain relatively private such as attics, piping and sheds. You can buy traps designed to suit a range of scenarios from professional exterminators such as Rentokil .

The fourth step is to keep your food preparation and disposal areas as clean and free from mess as possible. Leaving rotting food in bins that can be easily accessed by mice is a sure fire way of attracting their attention. Bins need to be sealed, counters need to be clean and food kept in sealed containers.

Finally, keep a sharp eye out for signs of mice in your home such as droppings or a musty urine smell so that you can catch and resolve the problem before it gets out of hand.
