Artists perform for David

And next week's collaboration of who's who in local music circles will help send one Peebles High School pupil all the way to Malaysia to volunteer for a charity.

David McLeish, who is himself a classically trained guitarist, has been raising money since last year to fund a placement with Project Trust.

Next Friday he will take to the Eastgate stage to demonstrate his playing ability.

And he will be joined by many fellow pupils from the High School as well as one of Scotland's best loved traditional singers, Gerda Stevenson.

Norwegian multi-instrumentalist Kyrre Slind, fresh from his recent album launch, will also perform at the fundraising concert.

Community choir, The Wednesdays, will also make a welcome appearance on stage, as will Biggar's finest covers band, Tim's Kitchen.

David told the Peeblesshire News: "Expect guitar, sitar, lute, piano, violin, voice and a few surprises.

"This is a rare opportunity to see such a variety of musicians performing under one roof."

Project Trust is an educational charity specialising in overseas volunteering placements for young people aged from 17 to 19.

Since 1967 they have been organising long term voluntary placements in Africa, Asia and the Americas.

From a base on the Hebridean Isle of Coll, the charity selects up to 300 young people each year from across the UK and Europe for year-long voluntary teaching and social care projects.

These projects are carefully selected to ensure the volunteers’ existing skills can be put to good use in their host communities and do not take work from local people.
