THE Dukes of Uke in 'The Quest for the Golden Ukulele' offered up an evening of comedy and popular songs last Friday.

The Dukes of Uke are an eight piece band who accompany their singing with great harmonies and the four different sizes of ukulele (soprano, concert, tenor and baritone) plus an acoustic bass guitar.

They play a wide variety of musical styles, from punk to pop, country and western to folk, soul to rock and Latin to jazz.

Their blend of music and humour creates a harmonious and visual treat for audiences of all ages.

In their current show, 'The Dukes of Uke and the Quest for the Golden Ukulele', the band has joined forces with local writer Malcolm Muir to present a story, with songs, photos and video.

Written in the style of the epic frontierland poems of Robert H Service (he of 'Dangerous Dan McGrew') it is a story of the rivalry between two desperate men for the heart of local beauty 'Bookshop Chris'.

They enjoyed a successful gig.
