ST RONAN'S Wells Visitor Centre in Innerleithen has been awarded a 4 star grading by the VisitScotland Quality Assurance scheme.

Situated on the site of the historic spa, the Centre hosts exhibitions telling the story of Innerleithen and St Ronan's Wells, describing their connections with the great Scottish writers Sir Walter Scott and James Hogg. The origins of the unique Cleikum ceremonies held in the town each July each year are also explored.

The gardens surrounding the spa have been featured on the BBC Beechgrove Garden television programme and they continue to be developed and enhanced with new plantings and sculptures.

Councillor Vicky Davidson, Scottish Borders Council's Executive Member for Culture, Sport, Youth and Communities said: “The staff at St Ronan’s Wells have worked incredibly hard to reach the high standard required to be awarded 4 Star grading, the highest available in their category. VisitScotland’s report spoke very highly of the quality of the welcome given by staff and the very high customer service standards at this attraction.

“The report made particular mention of the quality of current exhibition, Cleft and Carved which showcases the furniture and carved wood panels made by Adrian McCurdy. The loveliness of the gardens which visitors can enjoy while sampling the famous waters were also commended. I would encourage anyone who hasn’t paid a visit to St Ronan’s to take the time to do so before the summer season is over. If you can’t make it this year, the Centre will be open again in the spring and a visit is highly recommended.”

St Ronan’s Wells is open to the public 1 April - 31 October, Monday-Friday 10am-1pm and 2-5pm and Saturday-Sunday 2-5pm. Admission is free. There is full wheelchair access to visitor centre, including an accessible toilet although there is restricted access for wheelchairs in outdoor grounds. Phone 01896 833583 for more information.
