A PAIR of Peebles sisters are among the latest success stories of the Scottish Borders Council-sponsored young driver scheme.

Kathryn and Fiona McDiarmid passed the Institute of Advanced Motorists driver course, which aims to improve skills of drivers from the Borders aged 17 to 25, as well as cut the number of serious injuries and deaths on the region’s roads.

Fellow Peeblean Cameron Pye, Selkirk’s Jennifer Burrows and Teviothead’s William Bannatyne also passed - bringing the total number of youngsters to pass the course to 77.

Community Safety councillor Donald Moffat, said: “Congratulations to the latest young people from the Borders to pass the advanced driver course. “I am delighted to hear we now have 77 young people with improved skills thanks to passing the IAM course, with a further 12 currently taking part in the scheme. I am sure the value of this project to the region will be noticed in years to come.”
