A NEW event for Peebles is set to make the town sparkle at Hogmanay.

A torchlight procession will take place in Peebles town centre on New Year’s Eve.

The procession will start at 6.30pm, starting and finishing at Peebles High Street and crossing the river twice, over Priorsford Bridge and the Tweed Bridge.

Torches will be available to buy for £7.50 each, and all profits will go to the Peebles Youth Trust and the Peebles Round Table, both of which do valuable work within the community.

The event will be run by Hillside Outside, the company behind TweedLove and Tour O The Borders.  Hillside Outside director Neil Dalgleish said: "We’ve been thinking about a torchlight procession for a while, as there isn’t really anything for families to do on New Year’s Eve. We hope people will wrap up warm and come on down for a celebration of fire and fun to bring in the new year."

Torches can be bought online in adance and collected from Peebles High Street on New Year’s Eve.  Everyone is welcome to join the procession, whether a torch is carried or not.  Music and refreshments will be available.

Neill added: "We’d like to thank our sponsors The Peebles Hydro, Thomson Gray, Renwick and Weir, Tweed Valley Fruit Trees, Scotlight and BFM Properties for their invaluable support."
