A SCHOOL pupil made hoax telephone calls resulting in a fire engine, taxi and takeaway meals being sent to the home of a senior teacher, a court has heard.

The 17-year-old - who cannot be named for legal reasons due to his age - admitted embarking on the course of action over a five week period.

One call was made to a help line pretending to be the teacher and saying he felt suicidal but when it was checked out there was found to be no truth in it.

The teenager - who is no longer a pupil at Peebles High School - was caught when the call to the fire service was listened to and his voice was recognised.

He pleaded guilty to while acting with others repeatedly making the telephone calls which resulted in visits to the teacher's home in Melrose,of a fire engine, taxi and takeaway meals between January 10 and February 17.

Procurator fiscal Graham Fraser told Selkirk Sheriff Court that a 999 call was made at 3.30pm on February 17 basically saying a man was trapped at the senior teacher's home address.

He added: "This sort of behaviour has caused great alarm to him and also inconvenience to others."

Defence lawyer Susan Gibson said there were two other youths involved and her client had been "very immature and foolish".

She added: "He is very apologetic for his behaviour and ashamed."

Sheriff Peter Paterson deferred sentence for two weeks so that the teacher victim could be asked what effect the hoax telephone calls had on him.
