THE ANNUAL Rowan Boland Memorial Ball was another glittering affair at the weekend, with this year's theme of The Oscars making sure everybody looked red-carpet ready.

Ladies in full length dresses and dapper gents in bow ties flocked to the Volunteer Hall in Galashiels to dance the night away for a good cause.

The Rowan Boland Memorial Trust was set up in memory of sports-mad schoolboy Rowan who died while playing cricket near his home in Galashiels, aged nine.

The trust held its first ball in 2013 and after the evening was hailed a huge success, with over 200 guests attending, it was decided that it would become a yearly event.

Rowan was a keen and enthusiastic sportsman who even at his young age had already played representative cricket for the Borders Under 11's.

In his memory, the Trust provides young sports people in the Borders with assistance to enable them to further their sporting careers.

It recognises the ever increasing financial burden of training and competing at the higher end of sport and offers financial assistance to juniors who have shown proven ability in their field.

Everybody got into the spirit of the night and the dance floor was packed as everyone flung one another around to the Dashing White Sergeant and Strip the Willow. There was also music from local band Farenheit.
