PEEBLES Swimming Pool has been closed since December 30 when it was badly flooded in the height of Storm Frank.

The clean up began immediately as staff rallied to do as much as they could, but the damage to the Borders Sport and Leisure Facility was extensive.

The day of the closure, the river burst its banks and water rushed in under the pool's main entrance door, severely damaging all of the flooring within the main entrance foyer, reception, staff room, and office - all of which needed replaced.

Both boilers were completely damaged and new ones have had to be bought.

A spokesperson for BSLT said: "We are glad to report that all the required works are progressing well, and although we still do not have a confirmed re opening date, we hope to have this information by the end of the week.

"The new flooring has been laid, and the plastering and painting started this morning (Monday). The water is heating up nicely for you all, and once we get the air temp up to spec and a final round of checks carried out in the plant room, we should be ready for you all soon.

"We appreciate your patience while we get the final pieces of work all completed."
