AN 18-year-old woman has died and two pensioners have been injured in a two-car crash near St Boswells.

The accident happened on the A68 St Boswells to Jedburgh Road, near the Lilliardsedge Caravan Park, at about 8pm last night (Wednesday).

The woman was driving a Hyundai Getz which collided with a Suzuki Ignis.

She was taken to the Borders General Hospital where she later died

The 71-year-old female driver of the Ignis and a 78-year-old man were taken to the BGH with serious injuries.

The driver has been described as being in a serious but stable condition.

The man is being treated for a chest injury but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The road was closed for about 10 hours and the police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Sgt Neil Inglis said: "Tragically this collision has resulted in the death of a young woman and the driver of the other vehicle remains in a very serious condition in hospital.

"We are continuing with our investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision and would urge any motorists who were on the A68 at around 8pm on Wednesday, April 13, to contact us immediately if they witnessed the incident.

"In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to this inquiry should also get in touch."
