STAFF at Tweeddale Museum in Peebles will be Spinning a Yarn next weekend.

And they are inviting textiles workers from through the ages to join them in the Burgh Hall for a day of reminiscing.

Live Borders Museums and Galleries are celebrating the stories of the spinners, weavers and other mill workers of Walkerburn, Innerleithen and Peebles with exhibitions, musical performances and demonstrations.

Rosemary Hannay from Tweeddale Museum told us: "We are flagging up our fantastic textile tradition and the rich heritage of the area at an event supported by MuseumsGalleriesScotland Festival of Museums with a day to reminisce about the people and products that made these towns famous.

"We will have demonstrations of spinning, weaving and knitting with the opportunity for hands on activities for all ages.

"You can share memories inspired by photographs from the past while swapping stories over a coffee."

During the celebration of textiles event there will be an opportunity to try your hand at carding wool, raising a nap with a teasel, or just sharing your own experiences and stories of life in the mills.

The basic element – wool - will be represented by lambs in the courtyard where you can chat to a farmer and see them being fed.

And the event will be rounded off at 3pm with a performance of songs of mills and weaving by local singing group, the Fisher Lassies.

Festival of Museum events will be taking place across Scotland over the weekend of May 13, 14 and 15, for more information see festivalofmuseums.com

Spinning a Yarn is on Saturday, May 14 in the Burgh Hall, Peebles from 10.30am to 3.30pm.
