THE sun was splitting the sky for this year’s charity Golf Day in aid of Peeblesshire Youth Trust.

With over 100 keen golfers taking part it promised to be a fantastic day of playing and raising money for this local charity.

Following an auction with prizes including holidays in Provence and art work from local artist Mark Sermon, the grand total of £11,000 was raised for the charity.

With the support of the sponsors, Costa Coffee, all the money raised will go directly to funding the work of the charity.

Robert Harrison, vice chair of Peeblesshire Youth Trust said: “Peeblesshire Youth Trust continues to go from strength to strength, mentoring more children every year; this of course means that the need for our services is also growing.

"Our annual Golf Day is a celebration of the work that the charity does, but also a reminder about the scale of the issues that our young people face.”

Peeblesshire Youth Trust works with all nine primary schools in Tweeddale from Walkerburn to West Linton.

They focus is on working with children who ‘fly below the radar’ - the children who struggle to find their place, who don’t make friends easily because they are shy or just struggle with the social pressures that exist today.

They provide mentors who volunteer to work with the children for up to three years from primary six to the end of first year at High School, supporting them, encouraging them and introducing them to new opportunities to help them not only realise but achieve their full potential.

Jamie Buchanan, regional manager of Costa Coffee commented: “we are delighted to be working with Peeblesshire Youth Trust, a fantastic local charity that is focused on young people.

"At Costa we are committed to working with local partners to build stronger communities and see this partnership as a key way of achieving this in Peeblesshire.

"We are very excited to be part of this Golf Day and are so pleased that we have raised lots of money for this fantastic charity.”
