LOCAL MSP John Lamont is today urging individuals and organisations affected by flooding in the Borders to apply for funding before the deadline of 4pm on Friday, May 27.

The Appeal was launched in January as a response to the unprecedented rainfall caused by Storms Desmond, Eve and Franks.  Since then the Appeal has raised over £675K thanks to the support of the public, Foundation Scotland’s clients the People’s Postcode Lottery and Comic Relief.

Individuals and organisations can apply to the Flood Appeal in addition to claiming the £1500 which was made available from the Scottish Government.

John Lamont MSP said: “Because of the generosity of the public and businesses, this fund has been set up to lend extra help to those affected by flooding over the winter.

“Residents or community groups who have been affected can apply for a further £500, on top of any grants they have already been given by the Government. This fund will prioritise the elderly, households with children and people on low incomes.

“Applications need to be received before Friday, so I’d encourage Borderers to take a look at the Foundation Scotland website to see if they can apply.”
