A SECOND crash has occurred on the A707 near Selkirk - just a few miles from a motorcycle crash two hours earlier.

Two cars - a brown Nissan Micra and a Mercedes Vito van - collided near the Waterwheel Cafe, in Selkirk, at around 12.50pm today.

The woman driver of the Micra was rushed to Borders General Hospital were she remains in a serious condition.

The passenger of the van was treated at the scene and described as 'walking wounded.'

Earlier this morning, at 11.25am, a motorcycle collided with a Fiat 500 just a few miles from the Waterwheel Cafe, close to High Sunderland, about a mile outside of Selkirk. 

The motorcyclist is also in a serious condition and is being treated at Borders General Hospital.

The stretch of road between Yair Bridge and Bannerfield is still closed.

Police are appealing for witnesses relating to either of the two incidents on the A707 today.
