APPRENTICE farrier Andrew Winton struck gold last weekend at the Royal Highland Show.

The former Peebles High pupil from the Manor Valley is currently in his final year as an apprentice farrier.

Having already gained success in January when selected for the Scottish Farrier Apprentice Team to competed alongside the senior team at the Home International competition, Andrew entered three different classes during last weekend's Show at Ingliston for third and fourth year apprentices.

In the Therapeutic Shoes competition he came out on top.

And he followed up his victory with another first place in the Hunter Shoes competition.

Andrew was also placed fifth in the Clydesdale Shoes competition.

The judges awarded Andrew the overall Apprentice Show Champion for 2016 once the combined scores had been tallied.
