FIVE pals will cycle Fife in memory of their late friend – and help raise awareness about an agonising condition few have heard off.

Ewan Carrigan, 35, Alex McCallum, 36, Sean Duncan, 35, David Lamond, 35, and Mark Baird, 35, will begin the two-day 110 mile-ride tomorrow (Friday).

It will raise money for OUCH, a charity that highlights cluster headaches – which describes the pain as "the worst pain known to mankind".

The late Gavin Fern suffered from the excruciating condition which hospitalised him for a month.

The Valleyfield man went missing prior to his death in 2010 and friends rallied to lead a national social media campaign to help find him.

Sadly, the 30-year-old's body was later found near Blairhall.

The challenge will take place on the anniversary of Gavin's death and Ewan said: “Hardly anyone has heard of cluster headaches – it’s such a painful condition that can lead to a lot of suffering.

“So this charity cycle will hopefully let more people know about it and the support and information that is available through OUCH.

“We all remember Gavin fondly – he was a funny and likeable guy and his death was devastating to many people, not least his mum, Sandra, sister, Helen, and the rest of the family.

“We have held previous events in memory of Gavin and they have all been well attended, which shows you just how much he meant to many people.

“The cycle will be pretty tough-going so we’re all looking forward to completing it and raising a glass in Gavin’s memory.”
