BORDERERS will be sent letters by Scottish Borders Council detailing who is registered to vote at that address.
The move has been designed to ensure the electoral role is up to date and identify those who are not currently registered to vote so they can sign up.
The council say the early measure is to encourage as many people to vote in the Scottish local government elections which will take place next May.
Brian Rout, Acting Electoral Registration Officer for Scottish Borders Council said: "Registering to vote is simple and I would encourage everyone to respond as quickly as possible.
"If you are not currently registered please contact my office where my team of advisors will be able to assist or you can just go online to apply at http://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. You will need to provide your date of birth and national insurance number."
