THE Borders Heritage Festival is returning to the region this September and organisers have just released the programme.

The events will range from Twilight tours of Floors Castle to a celebration of 150 years of Robert Snail's Printing Works and many of the attractions will be free.

Councillor Ron Smith, Scottish Borders Council’s Executive Member for Planning and Environment, said: "Once again the Council, a range of our partners and Borders visitor attractions have organised an attractive array of events for this annual festival. There will something in there for everyone to enjoy.

"This gives us a tremendous opportunity to display the cultural and historical assets that we have in the Scottish Borders. We are very lucky to live in an area with so many wonderful places on our doorstep, and I would encourage local people as much as visitors to take this opportunity to explore and learn more about them."

More than 130 events are taking place as part of the Festival, across more than 40 sites, all over the region.

Some of the main events include:

  • The Barony Castle Grounds Tour, which includes a talk about the Great Polish Map of Scotland.
  • Bernat Klein – Colour, Fashion, Fusion, a free exhibition at Borders Textile Towerhouse.
  • The Art of Fishing - a free exhibition at Hawick Museum throughout September which includes fascinating fishing flies, paintings and other art forms celebrating fishing and the River Teviot.
  • A behind the scenes tour at Eyemouth Museum.
