A DROP-IN session will be held in Peebles, to give Tweeddale residents the chance to have their say on the activities available for the elderly.

Scottish Borders Council is looking for feedback, in an attempt to help pensioners and people with long-term conditions remain active and socially connected.

The event will be held on Friday, September 30, from 12pm-3pm at Peebles Community Centre and refreshments will be provided throughout the afternoon.

It is being organised by the council's Building Community Capacity Team, which is working to provide more opportunities in the area.

Councillor Frances Renton, SBC’s Executive Member for Social Work and Housing, said: "The Community Capacity Building team has been working in the Tweeddale area since 2013 with the aim of supporting greater involvement by the community in how day opportunities are provided at a local level.

"They have engaged with older people, people with long term conditions, statutory agencies and organisations from the third and private sectors, both at a local and national level, and together they have set up some very popular and well attended groups.

"From the Friday afternoon drop-in sessions at the Community Centre to the gentle exercise class that takes place in Innerleithen on a Monday afternoon, there is already a wide range of activities on offer to suit a range of interests.

"However, what we are looking for now is to get a sense from people about how they think the project is doing; what is working well, what could be improved, what other ideas people might have that they think would be of benefit," she added.

"I would therefore encourage anyone with an interest in the provision of these services to share their thoughts and experiences with the team so that we can make sure that what is being provided meets the needs of the local community in the most helpful and beneficial way."
