A WALKERBURN group has secured £8,000 of funding to repair and extend paths in the village.

And if Tesco shoppers in Peebles vote their way the Development Trust could get even more funding for the Jubilee Park project.

The Tesco Bags of Help scheme offers community groups and projects in each of Tesco’s regions across the UK a share of revenue generated from the 5p charge levied on single-use carrier bags.

Three local projects go into an in-store vote to decide which receives the top prize of £12,000 with the runner-up securing £10,000 and the third-placed scheme £8,000.

Ian Pennel from the Walkerburn Development Trust said: "The Trust plans to repair the paths which were damaged by the heavy rains last winter and to extend the surfaced pathway to a full circuit of Jubilee Park.

"You can help us get even more funding by voting to support the project in Tesco at Peebles. So we need your votes - every one counts.

"We've got £8,000 - let's put Walkerburn first and go for more."

In store customer voting will run from October 31 through to November 13.
