A spokesperson from the Met Office told us: "The northern lights could well be visible over northern parts of the UK tonight. The further north you are the better your chance of seeing the Aurora.
"However obviously this is weather dependant and you can check twitter for cloud cover or our website for the forecast for individual towns."
The northern lights, otherwise known as the aurora borealis, are a natural phenomenon resulting in an assortment of colours, patterns and lights caused by the different effects of space weather on Earth.
The best conditions to view the lights are when the sky is dark and clear of any clouds.
The lights will be best viewed away from any light pollution, in remote areas, such as the Borders, facing the northern horizon
The northern lights are most active during the equinoxes between the Spring months of March and April and the Autumn months of September and October.
