PRIMARY pupils across the region have been doing their bit for Children in Need.

Pupils from Biggar Primary School took part in a dress down day with the theme ‘spots’ to raise funds for the appeal.

As part of their fundraising efforts, the Primary 6 pupils took part in fundraising activities such as ‘guess the number of sweeties in the jar’.

Headteacher Heather Graham told the Peeblesshire News: “The pupil council organised the event for the dress down day and raised an amazing £262.33 for Children In Need.

The children organised what they wanted to do for charity and arranged the sweets in the jar competition.

“It was a fun day for all the pupils, who we leave to pick the charity that they want to support. We’ve supported Children In Need before and is always a day we look forward to at the school.

“I’d like to congratulate our lovely pupils on the brilliant fundraising efforts for charity this year.”

Meanwhile, Eddleston P7 pupils put on a ‘Spotacular’ event to raise money.
Pupils were encouraged to dress in spotty clothes, to guess how many spots were on a cake and to spend their pocket money on some home-baking provided by pupils and parents.

Together, the pupils helped raise £107.17 and had loads of fun in the process.

Principal teacher Fiona Taylor said: “We’re tremendously proud of the initiative shown by our P7s in thinking up this fundraiser and getting the whole school joining in.

“From guessing the spots on a cake to wearing their spotty clothes, everyone joined in and raised an excellent sum for a school of less than 50 pupils.

“We look forward to finding out what other ideas they have in store for the rest of the year.”

Following the death of long time host and fundraiser Sir Terry Wogan, Children In Need raised £46,624,259 this year, adding nearly £10 million compared to £37,100,687 raised for the charity in 2015.
