A PEEBLES man has been remanded in custody after being accused of being in possession of a knuckleduster in a Galashiels public house.

Twenty one year old Raymond Thomson of Violet Bank, appeared from custody at Selkirk Sheriff Court to face a charg of having the offensive weapon in the Bridge Inn in Island Street on Sunday.

He pleaded not guilty and also denied behaving in a threatening or abusive manner in Kingsland Square, Peebles, back in August, and possessing an offensive weapon, namely a piece of wood.

A trial date was set for January 5 with an intermediate hearing on December 19.

Sheriff Derrick McIntyre remanded Thomson in custody.
