PEEBLES Community Council has teamed up with Live Borders to encourage residents to have their say in a sports and leisure survey.

As previously reported in the Peeblesshire News, the community council last year decided to undertake a survey of the sports, leisure and recreation facilities in Peebles.

The survey aims to draw up a list of proposed improvements or additions across the area with a four-part consultation.

A questionnaire was sent out to all of the organisations in Peebles earlier this month with a deadline for responses on Friday, January 20.

A similar form is available to members of the public online via the Peebles Community Council page, with the closing date for responses set for Friday, February 3.

Once all the responses have been received, a drop-in event will be held at the Burgh Hall on Saturday, February 14, between 10am to 4pm.

Organisations and members of the public can view the responses and make further contributions.

The results of the survey will then be brought together in a report, which the community council will then present to Scottish Borders Council and any other relevant organisations.

John McBay, sports development manager from Live Borders, told the Peeblesshire News: “My team are assisting the community council to find out about all sport, leisure and recreation facilities in the Peebles area.

“I met with the chairman Robin Tatler just before Christmas to offer support from the sports development team through the Peebles Community Sports Hub and Club sport Tweeddale – sports development actively works with 165 clubs across the region.

"The Live Borders sports development service has a clear focus to develop and support local clubs, volunteers, coaches and athletes to realise their full potential.

“It has been a real advantage working with the community council as we are now able to ensure that all of the organisations are working together to ensure that the information gets to all of the relevant clubs and organisations, it is anticipated that once the information has been obtained it will filter into the wider Borders facilities strategy.”
