Fjordhus Reivers 5

Kinross 0

There was double cause for celebration on Saturday as Fjordhus Reivers extended their lead at the top of the East League Three.

As well as the 5-0 victory their youngest member has just been called up to the Scotland age-group squad.

Charlie Jack, at the age of 13, is the first boy from the Borders to ever be included in the Scotland Under 16 squad.

No ring-rustiness was evident as Fjordhus Reivers Men returned from the season's winter break to power past Kinross at Tweedbank, on Saturday.

The team started strongly, retaining possession, passing well and looking threatening in the opposition circle.

Kinross were struggling to clear their lines and Stuart Ramsey opened the scoring from a penalty corner, adroitly stepping inside the onrushing defence.

With Fjordhus-Reivers continually menacing the away defence from the flanks, Scott Girvan swept in at the far post to make it 2-0.

Into the second half the team continued to dominate proceedings but failed to capitalise on a series of chances.

This afforded Kinross hope, and they grew into the match.

Had they pulled one back, possibly it could have been a much tighter game.

It wasn't to be - James Logan finishing smartly from a well-worked Fjordhus counter to put daylight between the teams.

Kinross heads went down after that, but not before Charlie Jack added two more for the home team including an unstoppable screamer from the edge of the circle.

The scoreline of 5-0 was perhaps harsh on the visitors, but Fjordhus Reivers deserved it, having worked hard for the whole match.

It was great to see the team playing with width, and for some of our younger players, in particular Paul Goldie on the wing, to cause a competent opposition so much consternation!

The Reivers men continue to march on seven points clear at the top of East District Division 3.
