Peebles 2

Fidra 2s 2

THE first match of 2017 saw the Peebles men take on Fidra 2nds at the High School in pretty miserable conditions.

Usually after a long break both teams would be rusty and not quite up to full game speed but this theory went out the window as the Pees took an early lead.

A quick turnover of play from the home sides defence moved the ball forward up through Landrock and Blundell then Wardhaugh finished the counter attack with a driving shot past the keeper.

Peebles tried to press home their advantage but the travelling side started to work their way into the game more and created several chances. Not long after this Fidra levelled the score with a similar goal to the Pees first.

The home side tried to capitalize on a couple of good chances from Wilson, Blundell and Barrett but couldn’t retake the lead.

Just before half time the away side doubled their tally with a long ball into the Dee and a snap shot caught out the Pees defence.

After a standard motivational pep talk from keeper Kalman the home side came out for the second half with a new lease of life, causing a lot of problems for the Fidra back line but were unable to get back into the game.

The match became quite scrappy at times with the Pees defence being called into action on several occasions but they held their own and prevented the home side falling further behind.

The last ten minutes of the match became the home sides best part of the game, creating some positive forward play and several opportunities to level the match.

Eventually they managed to convert one of their chances, a through ball from Landrock to Wilson who crossed it for Wardhaugh who doubled his tally for the match and levelled the game.

Peebles pressed til the end of the match but ran out of time. A well deserved and earned point in the end.

Big thanks as ever go to K Jackson for umpiring.

This week the Pees are away and face Stirling Wanderers.
