Peebles Ladies 2

Linlithgow Ladies 0

Following last week's disappointing defeat away to Boroughmuir Peebles Ladies were at home on Saturday to play Linlithgow, who are top of the league and unbeaten this season.

The first time the teams met earlier on in the season Peebles were very poor and Linlithgow came out on top.

This time round Peebles knew what mistakes were made and set out to rectify those mistakes and redeem themselves.

Right from the whistle the home side worked as a team, were physical and fought for every ball.

The game was a fast pace with Linlithgow playing to their strengths up the middle and creating some chances. Great work at the back from Shirley Gray, Leanne McAllister and Joyce Mathews kept the shape and kept the visitors at bay.

The home side, using the width more, were also creating numerous chances and winning penalty corners. Peebles remained patient and were finally rewarded with a goal from a perfect strike by Karis Sharpe from another corner.

The confidence and belief this gave the home side seemed to rattle the visitors.

Peebles remained calm and composed to go into half time 1-0 ahead.

The second half started frantically with Linlithgow trying to break the Peebles defence but the home side showed great maturity and composure to calm the game down and take control.

A second goal was to follow with super link up play by Beth Williamson, Sarah Glendinning and Karis Sharpe finally finding Donna Clark who fired the ball home.

Heather Horsburgh was unlucky not to make it three when a cross fired along the goal line by Sharpe was intercepted by the Linlithgow defence.

Again numerous corners were awarded to the home side but the score remained 2-0 at the final whistle.

Fantastic play by youngsters Helena Tipper, Elizabeth Nguyen and kazya Stevens who are maturing every game they play. Elaine Thomas and Leah Wilson also put a magnificent effort and worked tirelessly in midfield. Peebles GK Tara Spence again kept the defence on their toes and producing another solid performance.

Awesome work rate and team effort from start to finish.

Huge thanks to Stuart Lobb and Kim Jackson for umpiring.

This week Peebles travel to Tweedbank for a 2pm pass back against fellow Borderers Fjordhus Border Reivers.
