A FIVE-FIGURE sum of money has been taken from an Innerleithen shop overnight.

The incident is believed to have happened between 8.30pm on Wednesday, February 8 and 6.50am on Thursday, February 9 at the Daymart newsagents on High Street, Innerleithen.

Officers believe entry was gained via a rear door and a five-figure sum was taken from the safe along with a large quantity of cigarettes from within the shop.

Inspector Scott Finlay of Galashiels Police Station said: “We would ask anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the vicinity of 23 High Street, Innerleithen to please get in touch.

“Anyone who was in the area between the hours of 8.30pm on Wednesday, February 8 and 6.50am on Thursday, February 9 and has information that may assist police in their investigation is asked to call 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
