YOUNG musicians from Innerleithen have been crowned Scottish champions.

And of few of their band-mates at St Ronan's also came home with bronze awards.

The junior members of St Ronan's Silver Band were taking part in the Scottish Youth Solo and Ensemble Championships at the Howden Centre in Livingston on Saturday.

In the Intermediate Ensembles St Ronan's was represented by two quintets, both under the direction of David Robb.

The group of Anya Wilson, Sophie Ward Murray, Elliot Brydon, Ally Norman and Alex Paterson put in a great performance to achieve a bronze award. And just a short time later a very assured performance by the quintet of Callum Robb, Callum Anderson, Ally Norman, Andrew Wilson and Thomas Brydon earned them a gold award and 1st place overall.

The victory saw the musicians crowned Scottish Champions for the second time, with all five having recently also won the national title with the Scottish Borders Youth Band.

There was plenty of individual success as well.

In the Junior Solo section Ally Norman gained a gold award and Anya Wilson a bronze award.

In the Intermediate Solo section Callum Anderson and Thomas Brydon were both awarded bronze awards and amidst a very high standard of playing Callum Robb received a gold award and third place overall.

Band Secretary Keith Belleville was delighted with the performances. He told us: "Our players were competing against the best young brass players from all over Scotland and they all played extremely well and should be very proud of their achievements."
