RESIDENTS in West Linton have come together to fundraise for good causes in the area.

On Friday, February 3, locals flocked to the Gordon Arms Hotel in the village to donate for the Race Night event.

A total of £1,120 was raised with the five causes receiving £225 each.

The groups to pick up a share of the money are; the First Responders, West Linton Pipe Band, the Hotspurs, The Girl Guides Trip to Norway and Broomlee Old Folks Home.

Organiser Garry Henderson told the Peeblesshire News: "I decided way back in November to run a race night in the Gordon Arms as I thought it would be good idea to help the pub in the quiet times in February.

"The new couple Seonaid and James are trying hard to make the pub work.

"I came up with idea that it would be good to raise money for good causes, both in and around the local area. I also wanted to included a memorial race, for the late resident Bobby Johnstone, in which I did.

"That race was the last of the night, and raised the most money. We made a wee toast to him, then ran the race."

Garry added: "We had a large raffle after race four, and these items were donated by local businesses and regulars of the pub. I also had a small bit of cabaret after the raffle, dressing up Tommy Davidson and Alan Stewart to race in the West Linton derby. They had to mimic being in a race at the same time as we dressed them up.

"We put shower nets on their heads, sun glasses on, dummy in their mouth and put nappy's on them."

Garry's wife Elaine, his daughter Claire, plus Adelle Ritchie, Alan Stewart and his wife Susan Stewart helped to run the event.

Resident Tommy Davidson, who attended and took part in the night added: "One of the beneficiaries of the money raised was the sheltered housing complex at Broomlee Court in West Linton.

"My mum and dad live there and on behalf of Broomlee Court, they are very grateful for the £225 received."
